Tourism jobs are now also available to women. Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit thinks jobs in the tourism industry, like being involved in handicraft-making should be taken by women.

He said things had changed with the time, with women now having equal opportunities as their male counterparts, especially in jobs that were once monopolized by men.

Dawos, who is also Mambong Member of Parliament, urged the Bidayuh community in Sarawak to develop their land with commercial crops that could be exported to the peninsula and Singapore markets.

“There are fruits grown here but are not available in (the peninsula and Singapre, for example the ‘Terung Dayak’ which is gaining demand there,” he said when speaking at the Kampung Simpok Persekutuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak (PPWS) event in Kuching, Saturday night.

He also reminded the people to be ready in facing the El Nino phenomenon, which is currently hitting Malaysia and other tropical countries.
