Canada continues to be the primary source of visitors to Cuba, according to a report by the National Statistics and Information Office (ONE), cited by the Cuban business magazine Opciones.

Over 181,260 Canadians visited the island up to June; however, the number was lower than in same period last year, when more than 183,850 Canadians came to the island. According to ONE, Canada is followed by the UK, Germany, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Venezuela, Russia, Argentina and Colombia.

A breakdown of the ONE report reveals that, from January to June, the island was the destination of 1,660,055 visitors, a slight increase compared to the similar period in 2013, when the total tourist arrivals were recorded at 1,597,000.

The ONE defines a visitor as a person who travels to another country for a period less than a year for purposes such as tourism, business or other personal interests. And this category of visitor is split into tourists and excursionists, tourists being those persons who travel to a country for a stay between one night and one year. Excursionists are those foreign citizens who travel for a period under 24 hours without including overnight accommodations.
