JAKARTA, Indonesia – Official tourism figures released from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy for the Republic of Indonesia reveal that UK visitor arrival figures are continuing to soar, with a record total of 48,871 British tourists travelling to the worldโ€™s largest archipelago in the first quarter of the year.

Latest monthly arrival statistics show that in April this year a total of 19,809 UK Brits visited Indonesia, an increase of 18.2 per cent on the same month in 2013 and representing the highest monthly figure for April since 2011.

These positive statistics suggest that Indonesia is a hot destination for 2014, a trend which is set to continue thanks to improved accessibility following Garuda Indonesia – the national carrier of Indonesia – launching a five-times-weekly direct service from Jakarta to Amsterdam, operating a three-class Boeing 777-300ER. The route will be extended to London Gatwick from 8th September 2014 using the same aircraft, a move that is expected to further boost tourism arrivals from the UK.

โ€œWe are delighted to witness increased visitor arrivals from the UK,โ€ comments Richard Hume, UK Country Manager. โ€œThe UK is one of the most important international markets for Indonesia and these pleasing statistics follow the opening of the destinationโ€™s first UK office, and further demonstrate Indonesiaโ€™s commitment to the market and recognition of its contribution to the countryโ€™s tourism economy.โ€
