The Indian community of the Seychelles has met with the islands’ Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture to confirm the dates for this year’s Seychelles-India Day Celebration.

The Indian community of the Seychelles has met with the islands’ Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture to confirm the dates for this year’s Seychelles-India Day Celebration.

It was Mr. V. J. Patel, the Chairman of the Committee, accompanied by Mr. Rajasundaram who paid a courtesy call on Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, to reconfirm that the 2014 edition of the Seychelles-India Day Celebration would be held from October 3-5, 2014.

Last year in a show of total unity that the government of Seychelles through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, the Indian government through the Indian High Commission in Seychelles, and the Indian business community had rallied to stage the first ever Seychelles-India Day Celebration. “This first celebration of the Indian culture was a total success. As a government we wanted to see the important part played by the Seychellois of Indian origin recognized, and we wanted the people of Seychelles to better understand and appreciate the Indian culture,e and this we can say we have achieved. Today in Seychelles, we see a stronger and a more united Indian community, and one that is more pro-active in working within the community at large whilst consolidating their respective businesses,” said Minister St.Ange whose idea it was to launch the Seychelles-India Day Celebration.

A brief summary of the three-day event is as follows:

Friday – October 3, 2014

1. Opening of exhibition & food fair

2. Opening ceremony โ€“ a people’s-based donation by the Seychellois Indian community

3. Adoption of a Seychelles facility for the following year

4. Auditorium performance – by invitation

Saturday – October 4, 2014

1. Continuation of food fair, exhibition

2. Gala night – free for all

Transportation is also being planned

Sunday – October 5, 2014

1. Luncheon โ€“ ticketed event for around 300 guests

2. Official closing ceremony
