The Pakistan Army has started an operation against the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Diamar Valley in Northern Pakistan. Pakistan Army military helicopters are busy finding and killing terrorists as far as into the lush green beautiful valley of Gilgit and Baltistan. This operation against terrorists has been expanded to the mountains of Diamer Valley, the same place where the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan killed 12 foreign tourists last year. This valley has been a perfect summer hideout for North Waziristani terrorists for the last 5 years, but no action had ever been taken against them, because every time Chilas Jirga came to rescue terrorists, the government tried to start an action against them.

Chilas Jirga always got a suspension of operation against terrorists from the local administration and let the terrorists live and work in this densely-forested valley. A majority of the local officials have allegedly been supporting the cause of the TTP that was also involved in cutting trees and selling them illegally with the alleged support of the Jirga.

The TTP killed one Army Colonel and one SP Police last year. These two officials were working to find terrorists who killed tourists on the Nanga Parbat trail. No operation in the Diamar Valley was done, even after the death of these two senior government officials of the security agencies. Allegedly Jirga supports radical Islamization in this area, as thousands of Afghan Mujahideens settled in this area after the 1979 Afghan-Russian Jihad.

The Pakistan Army had credible information that TTP Jihadis left North Waziritsan and disappeared in Mansehra, Battle, Jangle Mangle Chilas, Babusar Top, Thak, and Diamer Valley because the Jihadi could not manage to run away inside Afghanistan at this time due to strict security at the Afghan border provided by US-Afghan forces on the request of the Pakistan Army. There is no doubt that many TTP members ran away to Afghanistan, but not a big force could disappear in Afghanistan at this time, and the Pakistan Army ensured this leakage line before starting an operation.

On July 4, the TTP attacked a police station in Darel Valley wearing army uniforms and took away arms, ammunition, and police uniforms. They also directed policemen present in the police station to leave their government jobs and join the TTP by offering them handsome salary packages.

Now the Pakistan Army is busy trying to find TTP members in the dense forest of Thak Nullah at the left side of Babusar Top, Naran valley. This is the same place where the TTP killed 30 bus passengers who were from the Shia community of Gilgit Baltistan. An operation is also continuing in the Muspar Forest between Thak and Batogah Nullah.

Although the Pakistan Army is keeping this operation at a low profile, locals of these areas confirmed that a full operation is on in the forest and helicopters are also being used.
