Ismail Marzuki, a 24-year-old member of a local gang in Bali and reportedly working as a gigolo for a transvestite masseur in Kuta, has been detained by police after threatening a Russian tourist with a switchblade.

NusaBali reports that Ismail was arrested on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at 4:40 a.m. at the Hotel Komala Indah in Kuta.

The arrest was preceded by a report given to the police by I Ketut Wicana, a hotel employee, who heard screams coming from room 204 occupied by a Russian tourist, Aleksander Dedenko.

When Wicana checked the source of the commotion he saw the Russian being threatened by a switchblade held by Ismail who was also threatening to strike Dedenko with a hard object.

Police were summoned to the scene and took Ismail – a member of a local gang (Ormas), into custody and seized his weapons as evidence.

M. Ismail, the man arrested by police, was reportedly demanding additional money from the Russian who had just received a massage from a transvestite who asked Ismail’s assistance to obtain the additional payment for services rendered to the Russian.

Police say Ismail Marzuki now faces the possibility of 2 years in prison trying to coerce money from the Russian via a threat of violence.
