Following the partial acquisition of Nairobi’s Fairview Hotel in 2012, South Africa’s City Lodge Hotels has been granted permission by Kenya’s competition watchdog to buy the remaining 50 percent of the shares, now fully owning one of Nairobi’s landmark hotels.

City Hotels paid a reported 1.2 billion Kenya Shillings for a 50 percent share two years ago but remained silent for now on the value of buying the remainder of the shares in Fairview Hotel Limited.

Ranked by TripAdvisor as their number 6 hotel out of 96 for Nairobi, and rated with an average of 4.5 out of 5, has the Fairview for many years maintained its reputation as a hidden gem, excelling with the finest tradition of Kenyan hospitality as well as with good food and an extraordinary garden setting.

It could not be ascertained if this takeover will bring with it any rebranding or other changes often associated with such buyouts.
