SUVA, Fiji – Fiji Airways has begun taking measures to ensure incidents such as the hard landing of its Airbus at Sydney airport in March this year do not occur again.
Airline CEO and managing director Stefan Pichler said the company had appointed a new executive general manager operations and training manager to ensure the best training was provided to staff.
“We have made a lot of changes after the investigation and we found out the incident was not due to pilot error but due to organisational factors,” he said.
“The pilot who was there and in command is no longer flying. He’s still with us but he is doing ground jobs and we have made huge restructure in our operations.”
Mr Pichler said they had gone through all the processes and findings in order to make a decision regarding the pilot in question.
“He had been suspended from flying initially because we had to do the internal investigations.”
He said the new appointments would ensure all pilots had the right training.
