Tourists and travelers planning to visit or fly through US midwest cities should be aware of a multi-day severe weather outbreak.

Tourists and travelers planning to visit or fly through US midwest cities should be aware of a multi-day severe weather outbreak.

According to tweets received by @breakingweather more than 3500 flights in the US midwest are delayed, another 182 were cancelled earlier due to bad weather.

A more potent threat of severe thunderstorms appears possible as increased jet stream-level energy pivots into the northern Plains and Upper Midwest this weekend. This will combine with low level moisture and atmospheric lift to kick off potentially dangerous thunderstorms. The threat of severe thunderstorms will continue into early next week as the storms slide farther east.

Severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds, flooding rains, and dangerous lightning can be expected for multiple days in a row.

The risk of tornadoes increases this weekend, especially on Sunday in parts of the Plains and Midwest.
