The main train station in the German city of Cologne (Koeln Hauptbahnhof) has been closed after it was hit by lightning twice this evening.

The main train station in the German city of Cologne (Koeln Hauptbahnhof) has been closed after it was hit by lightning twice this evening. The incident happened around 9.309pm on a busy Friday night.

Major train delays are expected not only around the Cologne region, but also north in the heavily populated Ruhr and Duesseldorf region of Germany.

No reports of injuries. The German Railroad (DB) is working to get service restored and is offering alternate travel in some cases.
