In Western Australia Rock Lobster fishermen working near the Abrolhos islands, off the Geraldton coast, say they’re concerned about potential tourist accommodation being set up along side their fishing camps.

Late last week Premier Colin Barnett said he intended to examine ways to increase tourism access, to a number of sites in Western Australia, including the islands.

Abrolhos Islands Professional Fishermen’s Association president Terry Mouchemore, says while the industry isn’t overly concerned about tourism development, he expects most wouldn’t want tourist accommodation on islands with existing fishing camps.

While he says there are growing day-trip tourism operators at the Abrolhos, he’s sceptical about overnight accommodation being built in the short term.
