WASHINGTON, DC – The US Department of Commerce today announced that 6.3 million international visitors traveled to the United States in October 2014, a six percent increase over October 2013.

WASHINGTON, DC – The US Department of Commerce today announced that 6.3 million international visitors traveled to the United States in October 2014, a six percent increase over October 2013. October marks the 10th consecutive month of increases in 2014 in total US visits. For the first 10 months of 2014, visitation (62.7 million) was up seven percent compared to the same period in 2013.

Top Markets

โ€ข The top inbound markets continued to be Canada and Mexico. Non-resident visits from Canada decreased two percent while visits from Mexico increased 15 percent.

โ€ข The United Kingdom (5%), Japan (-3%) and Germany (1%) rounded out the top five.

โ€ข In October 2014, eight of the top 10 countries posted increases in non-resident visits.

โ€ข Non-resident visitation from five of the top 10 countries registered double-digit increases.

โ€ข During the first 10 months of 2014, eight of the top 10 countries (sort based on October 2014) posted increases in visitation to the United States.

Regional Markets

โ€ข Eight of the nine major overseas regional markets recorded increases in non-resident visits to the United States in October 2014: Western Europe (5%), Asia (7%), South America (4%), Oceania (16%), the Caribbean (20%), Middle East (9%), Central America (18%), and Africa (15%). At the same time, non-resident visits from Eastern Europe were down one percent.

Non-Resident Visits from Overseas Countries

โ€ข In October 2014, non-resident visits from overseas countries (3.0 million) were up seven percent over October 2013, accounting for 48 percent of total international visits to the United States.

โ€ข October YTD 2014, overseas resident visits (28.9 million) were up eight percent compared to the same period of 2013.
Top Ports: YTD October 2014

โ€ข YTD October 2014, visitation through the top 15 ports of entry accounted for 82 percent of all overseas visits-slightly below last year.

โ€ข The top three ports (New York (JFK), Miami and Los Angeles) accounted for 40 percent of all overseas arrivals-nearly one percentage point above last year.

โ€ข Thirteen of the top 15 ports recorded increases in arrivals in the first 10 months of 2014. Four of these ports recorded double-digit increases.

WASHINGTON, DC – The US Department of Commerce today announced that 5.1 million international visitors traveled to the United States in January 2014, a six percent increase over January 2013.

In January 2014, the top inbound markets continued to be Canada and Mexico. Non-resident visits from Canada were flat while visits from Mexico increased eight percent. Japan (-3%), the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China (33%), and Brazil (2%) rounded out the top five.

Of the nine(1) major overseas regional markets, eight regions recorded increases in non-resident visits to the United States in January 2014. Four of these regions posted double-digit increases.

The top three ports (Miami, New York and Los Angeles) accounted for 41 percent of all overseas arrivals-the same as last year. Thirteen of the top 15 ports recorded increases in arrivals in January 2014. Eleven of these ports recorded double-digit increases.

In February 2013, the top inbound markets continued to be Canada and Mexico. Non-resident visits from Canada increased seven percent while visits from Mexico dropped one percent. Japan (+6%) the United Kingdom (-5%) and Brazil (+11%) rounded out the top five. Eight of the top inbound overseas regional markets posted increases in non-resident visits in February 2013 with Western Europe posting the only decline, dropping two percent.

For the first two months of 2013, international visits (9.2 million) were up four percent compared to the same period in 2012.
