Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel, yesterday the venue for the meeting of the heads of state of Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda for the northern corridor cooperation, will from tomorrow, Sunday 04th May onwards host delegates from across Africa, and beyond, of member airlines of the African Airline Association for their third convention on Aviation Suppliers and Stakeholders Convention. Airlines will meet suppliers and meet among themselves to discuss a range of topical issues, when 4 panels of experts will dissect themes like ‘How can airlines, airports, tourism organizations, CAA’s and governments work together to ensure an attractive and competitive aviation industry’, ‘Developing sustainable partnerships – Strategy alignments among stakeholders for successful aviation development in Africa’, ‘How can air travel demand be increased and at what cost’ and ‘Leveraging the use of emerging technologies to create new business opportunities’, sessions interspersed by key note addresses and presentations from eminent individuals who have made their name in aviation and related sectors.

Sunday night will see the delegates mix at a social get together before embarking on two days of intense meetings in plenary and breakout sessions, discussing the way forward for African aviation as competition from the European legacy carriers and in particular from Gulf airlines gets ever tougher.

Nairobi based AFRAA has been at the forefront to be the voice of the African airline industry and is regularly offering platforms where the aviation fraternity can meet among themselves to strategize over the way forward but also interact with their respective regulators, representatives of ICAO, IATA and other stakeholders aimed to make air transport in Africa safer and more affordable. Additional hands on initiatives by AFRAA are a joint fuel purchasing cooperative which has reportedly brought participating airlines significant savings over the past two years. Watch this space for upcoming reports from Nairobi’s Safari Park Hotel where the AFRAA’s 3rd Convention is going underway tomorrow.
