JetBlue, Trinidad and Tobago’s newest air service provider, will on May 1 introduce a second route from the United States to the dual-island Caribbean nation, mere months after launching its inaugural flight to the Piarco International Airport from New York.
“We are excited to launch our second route from Port of Spain to the US to now offer nonstop service to both New York and Fort Lauderdale, with great connections to the rest of our network,” said Ian Deason, JetBlue’s Vice President, Airports.
Deason, also revealed that JetBlue’s service to the twin-island nation has met with great success.
“The New York route,” he said, “has performed extremely well since its launch in February this year, and with a large diaspora also in South Florida, we are pleased to be able to connect Trinidadians with their family and friends in the US.”
The introduction of JetBlue’s newest route is a welcome addition to the island’s airlift as the islands’ Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC) work towards increasing passenger arrivals. A major strategy in attracting more visitors is ensuring that travelers seeking to enjoy Trinidad and Tobago’s diverse product offerings and warm hospitality, can easily access a range of travel options.
Since the launch of JetBlue’s service to Trinidad, the airline has brought in an additional 1500 visitors to the destination with the Florida route expected to show a 73 percent increase by August. To celebrate its newest air link with the US, one of Trinidad and Tobago’s largest sources of visitor arrivals, the country’s tourism authorities have planned a cocktail reception in celebration of the Inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Yolande Selman, TDC’s acting Chief Executive Officer, said the new service will enhance the destination’s attractiveness by providing visitors and returning nationals with a reliable, affordable option which is an integral part of the destination’s marketing strategy to increase airlift.
The New York based airline made its inaugural flight to Trinidad’s Piarco International Airport on Monday, February 24, 2014. JetBlue now offers nonstop service to 25 destinations in the region with up to 200 daily flights to, from and within the Caribbean.
