Seychelles dresses Victoria in colorful attire for Carnival

Walking down Victoria, the capital of the Seychelles, one notices that the town has been transformed into a carnival corridor with an explosion of colors.

This year, MAD Creations, who tendered to decorate the town for carnival, said the colors, movements, and human characters is the central theme. For the last two editions of the Carnaval International de Victoria, it was also MAD Creations who had been awarded the tender to decorate Victoria for carnival time in Seychelles. Michel Denousse of MAD Creations, said emphasis was put on carnival symbols and color.

“This year we’ve blended human characters, movements, and colors with the carnival symbols. Carnival cannot exist without people. It’s people dressed in colorful costumes that brings out the carnival atmosphere,” said Michel Denousse of MAD Creations.

MAD Creations added other characters, such as dolphins, fish, and turtles; all animals found in Seychelles are part of the decoration. The animal characters should impress the children, as they will also have their own carnival on the Sunday Family Fun Day. Since Friday, April 11, MAD Creations has been busy at work decorating the Victoria.

“Traditionally we decorated only the streets where the carnival parade will take place. We’ve started on Francis Rachel Street and will gradually move to Bois de Rose Avenue, Albert Street, Palm Street, and Fifth June Avenue. This year we will also decorate Independence Avenue,” said Michel.

As carnival draws near, MAD Creations will bring interesting elements to the decorations. Strings of balloons will be a new element that will be added to the decorations.

“On the morning of the 26th, for the carnival parade itself, we will add strings of balloons all along the carnival route. When people come down to watch the parade, they will be taken up by the town’s sudden transformation of Victoria,” Michel added.
