ROSEAU, Dominica – Adventure racers are set to descend on the Caribbean Island of Dominica this month for the 2nd Annual Nature Island Challenge. Scheduled for April 7-11, four teams will compete in the four-day stage hiking race that covers more than 50 miles along the renowned Waitukubuli National Trail. Racers will encounter adventure, photo and cultural challenges that involve strategy, problem solving and creativity.

Competitors include a local team from Dominica, an American team affiliated with Ross University in Dominica and two teams from Trinidad. Team members include accomplished and socially connected trail/adventure racers competing in this once-in-a-lifetime experience that crosses gorges, valleys, mountain rainforests, rushing streams, natural springs and bubbling mud baths, and a myriad of cascading waterfalls, and stunning tropical scenery.

“The race will be challenging but also fantastic fun for racers as well as fans from around the world who can follow the excitement online and through social media channels,” said Colin Piper, Dominica’s director of tourism. “The Nature Island Challenge is all about fun survival challenges in a beautiful tropical setting and makes for fabulous entertainment.”

Four-person teams comprised of endurance athletes, hiking enthusiasts and adventure travelers will compete by traversing sections of the Waitukubuli National Trail, performing a series of athletic and cultural challenges along the way.

The competition features team members alternating on daily 10-15 mile-long trail runs. All four teammates reunite following each daily race to participate in a major challenge. The Nature Island Challenge is scored on a points system based on the finish order in each day’s trail run and the major challenges.

Teams will be required to capture the thrill of the competition in still photos and video which will be posted on social media outlets.
