DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – It’s second-time lucky for Dubai-born Parul Shah, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) Tourism at the Binibining Pilipinas pageant on Sunday.

Shah, the daughter of Dubai-based Filipina and Indian expats, made it as one of the 15 finalists in last year’s pageant but failed to bag a title. This year proved lucky for Shah.

In an interview last year, Shah had told tabloid! winning the title had always been her dream. “If given the chance to win the title and represent the Philippines, I wouldn’t wear the crown on my head but in my heart, with my feet firmly on the ground,” Shah said.

Shah and the other winners of the Philippines’ most prestigious beauty contest will represent the country in international pageants this year.

On Sunday’s coronation night, the big title went to North Cotabato beauty Mary Jean Lastimosa, who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-Universe at a packed Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City. Lastimosa also won best in swimsuit.

Besides the big crowd at the pageant venue, thousands more fans watched the beauty contest on live telecast across the Philippines.

Joining Parul and Lastimosa were Laura Lehmann (first runner-up), Hannah Sison (second runner-up), Kris Tifanny Janson (Binibining Pilipinas-Intercontinental), Yvethe Marie Santiago (Binibining Pilipinas–Supranational) and Mary Anne Guidotti (Binibining Pilipinas–International).

Janson, who was among the crowd favourites, also bagged two special awards: Best in national costume and Miss photogenic. Miss Universe 2013 Gabriela Isler was among this year’s judges.
