Brazilian employers’ organisation The National Confederation of Good Trade, Services and Tourism (CNC) is to be a main sponsor for World Travel Market Latin America, the leading global event for the Latin American travel industry.

The CNC is looking to utilise the international exposure WTM Latin America offers ahead of Brazil hosting the 2014 Football World Cup and Rio holding the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

CNC is sponsoring WTM Latin America to expand its contacts amongst the global travel and tourism industry with the aim of boosting tourism to the country.

CNC Tourism Council Chairman Alexandre Sampaio said: “With Brazil hosting such huge events WTM Latin America takes on a strategic position.

“As a representative of Brazilian tourism, the CNC had to be involved in WTM Latin America.”

WTM Latin America takes place between April 23rd and April 25th at the Transamerica Expo Center, in the city of São Paulo, at the same time as the 41st Braztoa Business Meeting (the Brazilian Association of Tour Operators).

At the 2013 edition of WTM Latin America, more than 1,200 exhibitors had the chance to create closer ties, make new contacts and of course, sign deals – all attracted by the economic and social progress that has been achieved by the countries in Latin America.

Sampaio added: “The growth of tourism in Latin America demonstrates the continued interest of international travellers to get to know the southern and central parts of the American continent. Latin America has a wide range of tourist products and segments to offer, such as exuberant landscapes and nature, historic monuments and cultural diversity – which is reflected in its folklore, in its cooking and in its arts and crafts – but, right now, it is also generating significant demand in relation to international travel in light of the emergence of a new middle class, with acquisitive power, which want to travel and familiarise themselves other countries.”

WTM Latin America Director Lawrence Reinisch said: “I am delighted CNC are sponsoring WTM Latin America. The partnership is key to the success of both the event and the Latin American tourism industry as the CNC plays a key role in publicising Latin America.”

The National Confederation of Goods Trade, Services and Tourism

(CNC) is the employers’ association which represents the rights and interests of businessmen in the goods trade, services and tourism sectors throughout the whole of Brazil, which account for roughly ¼ of Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and which provide formal employment for around 16 million people. The CNC manages one of the world’s largest social development systems – the Commercial Social Service (Sesc), which acts in the areas of education, health, culture and leisure, and the National Service for Business Education (Senac), which is the main agent of the professional education aimed at the sector. Together they cater to more than 20 million Brazilians a year.

The CNC-Sesc-Senac System provides professional training for Brazil’s tourism sector with more than 140 types of courses at Senac units throughout the entire country, having registered more than a million free enrolments in 2013. It encourages social tourism, offering through Sesc, a non-hotel network with 43 types of accommodation, capable of receiving 18 thousand tourists a day, with a focus on the sector‘s workers and their dependents.

At the institutional level, the CNC counts on the Corporate Chamber of Tourism (CET) and the Tourism Council, which discuss topics of interest to businessmen in the trade and propose studies and suggestions for the Confederation’s political actions. Through the Travel and Hospitality Advisory Service (Astur), the CNC takes part in and renders assistance at congresses, conferences and trade fairs in the sector, in addition to promoting dialogue with government entities, drawing up and forwarding the productive chain’s proposals to the public authorities. In the legislative area, the Confederation also monitors Draft Laws that are related to matters in connection with issues that are relevant to businessmen in the goods trade, services and tourism sectors.
