The main reason for the foreign tourists coming to Romania were travelers on businesses, congresses, conferences, training sessions, fairs and exhibitions (58 per cent of the total number of foreign tourists). The money business travelers to Romania spent here accounting for 66.4 per cent of the total income to the countries tourism revenue.
Leisure tourism to Romania counts for 42 per cent of all travel. Vacationers to Romania spent 33.6 per cent of the total. Private travels include holiday travels, shopping, cultural and sports events, visiting friends and relatives, medical treatment, religion, transit and other activities.
Most of the foreign tourists came by air (74.4 percent of the total), 12.5 per cent used their personal car to come to Romania, while 9.2 per cent used the buses and 3.9 per cent other means (such as train, boats, rented cars, motorbikes etc.).
The number of foreign tourists staying in hotels, resorts and B&B in Romania were 1.714 million in 2013, their total spending reaching up to 4.79 billion lei (more than EUR 1.07 billion. The data was released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) quoted by ActMedia.
