A magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck the northern coast of Chile, the US Geological Survey has said. The quake was located 63 miles northwest of the copper-exporting port of Iquique and had a depth of 7.1 miles.
There was no immediate threat of a tsunami, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Aftershocks of 5.2 and 5.5 magnitude were reported in the same area.
