University study: Homosexuality is merely an abnormal behavior

The Government of Uganda today released a press bulletin with the result of a study explaining its version of how homosexuality and genetics in humans work.

The Government of Uganda today released a press bulletin with the result of a study explaining its version of how homosexuality and genetics in humans work. This result is the justification for President Yoweri Museveni to sign an anti gay bill punishing homosexual behavior with life in prison.

A Ministerial Committee comprising of scientists from MOH and Makerere University was set up to study homosexuality and genetics in human beings and advise the President and the NRM Caucus on the subject of homosexuality.

This study was done by a university in this African nation with an established name and its leading professors and doctors.

Makerere University Kampala (MUK) is Uganda’s largest and second-oldest higher institution of learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. In 1963 it became the University of East Africa, offering courses leading to general degrees from the University of London. It became an independent national university in 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) and Makerere University.

Today, Makerere University is constituted of 9 Colleges and 1 school offering programes for about 30,000 undergraduates and 3,000 postgraduates.

Makerere was home to many post-independence African leaders, including former Ugandan president Milton Obote and late Tanzanian president Julius Nyerere. Former Tanzanian president Benjamin Mkapa current president of the DRC Joseph Kabila and recent Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki are also Makerere alumni.

In the years immediately after Uganda’s independence, Makerere University was a focal point for the literary activity that was central to African nationalist culture.

The committee to investigate homosexual behavior comprised of:

-Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng – Director General of Health Services –
-Dr. Isaac Ezati, Director Planning and Development at MOH –
-Dr. Jacinto AmanduaCommissioner Clinical Services –
-Dr. Sheila Ndyanabangi, Head, Mental Health Desk –
-Prof. Seggane Musisi Professor of Psychiatry at Makerere –
-Assoc. Prof. Eugene Kinyanda Senior Research Scientist, Medical Research Council
-Dr. David Basangwa Director, Butabika Hospital
-Dr. Sylvester Onzivua Senior Pathologist, Mulago Hospital
-Dr. Misaki Wayengera Geneticist, Makerere
-Dr. Paul Bangirana Clinical Psychologist, Makerere
-Prof. Wilson Byarugaba Rtd. Professor and former Head of Human and Molecular Genetics, Dept of Pathology, Makerere

Two medical Parliamentarians names; Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and Dr. Medard Bitekerezo also presented a report whose findings and conclusions concurred with that of the Ministerial Committee. The following were their observations:

1.There is no definitive gene responsible for homosexuality.
2.Homosexuality is not a disease but merely an abnormal behavior which may be learned through experiences in life.
3.In every society, there is a small number of people with homosexuality tendencies.
4.Homosexuality can be influenced by environmental factors e.g. culture, religion and peer pressure among others.
5.The practice needs regulation like any other human behavior especially to protect the vulnerable.
6. There is need for further studies to address sexuality in the African context.

Presidential Advisor on Science Dr. Richard Tushemereirwe stated that homosexuality has serious Public Health consequences and should therefore not be tolerated. H.E. the President then made it clear that his work was done and that all he needed was for the Scientists to sign the paper they presented since it would be a historical document forming basis for the signing of the Bill.

H.E. the president of Uganda also declared that he would sign the Bill since the question of whether one can be born a homosexual or not had been answered.

The President emphasized that Promoters, exhibitionists and those who practice homosexuality for Mercenary reasons will not be tolerated and will therefore be dealt with harshly.

Here is some feedback posted to Ugandan’s web portals in response to this study

This is the way to go.
Consult those who ought to know before making the far reaching decision.
As an Engineer, my own suspicion has been confirmed by both Biologists and Psychiatrists. What is left is for someone else to confirm my pan Africanist unease that the so called developed world wants to disorganise our evolving societies (by keeping us quarrelling amongst ourselves about their value systems – and also in this case, developing a crude population limiting and family destabilising habit) so that we never ‘catch up’.
I have one time told one influential Ugandan ‘intellectual’ and media owner that I do not buy his reasons for support of homosexuality (based on so called ‘sexual attraction’ or ‘orientation’. For in that case, we might soon accept bestiality since it could be argued that for some people (eg. some western women), dogs, cats and or any other animal (by the way even engineered robots) are ‘more attractive’ than fellow humans!
Mr. President, give us your signature like yesterday!

I am not convinced about the science and no wonder there is not much to show around. We mix tradition, religion, science etc!

As sure as night comes after day, the “scientists” report will be attached and trashed by the pro-gay promoters in the West.

Airplanes aren’t natural but we don’t put people in jail for the construction or use of airplanes. Artificial sweetener. Plastic. All unnatural things. I do not know if there is a gay gene nor do I care. If people are gay by nature or choice, it is their human right to be so. What I do know is that religion is most definitely a choice and an abnormal practice which produces this kind of hate mongering; are we to lock up Christians now as well?

I am continually shocked the way black is called white, left is called right, abnormal is called normal, and bad is called good. For heaven’s sake, and hear this: the KCC track that carries rubbish to the dumping site cannot be called anybody’s official car.

They said there is a small percentage with homosexual tendencies. That is the key. Sure, science is established that there is no specific gene for homosexuality. However, science is also established that gene expression or non-expression is based on the environment. And that environment includes in the womb and outside the womb. The science of gene expression is called epigenetics. On the outside where anybody who is reading this is, we can change the expression of certain genetic make-up–susceptibilities to certain disease– by our lifestyles–like not drinking, smoking, and eating healthy, etc. In our mother’s womb, the interpretations or expressions of our genes often depend on the hormonal content during conception. So, sometimes even when we have a certain plumbing (male or female), the hormonal influence works on some epi-marks in the opposite direction as if we have the wrong mind in the wrong body. This is 21st century science, and Uganda’s scientists need work on it.
