JAKARTA, Indonesia – The Jakarta Tourism and Culture Agency has once again postponed the operation of five double-decker tourist buses.

The operation of the China-made buses, which arrived on Jan. 13 and were scheduled to begin operation in January, was postponed to February while they awaited documentation from the police and the transportation agency to be issued.

Tourism and Culture Agency head Arie Budiman said the buses could hopefully start operating at the beginning of March.

Arie said despite being made in China, the buses were required to undergo feasibility tests at the Transportation Ministryโ€™s land transportation directorate.

The buses were also required to have vehicle ownership documents (BPKB and STNK) from the police, he said as quoted by kompas.com.

He admitted that flooding in certain areas of the city was another reason for the postponement as the buses could not be driven on inundated roads because of their low decks.

Once operational, the double-decker buses will shuttle domestic and foreign tourists for free to several tourist spots in the city, including the Istiqlal Mosque, the State Palace and the National Monument (Monas), all of which are in Central Jakarta.
