BAGUIO CITY, Benguet, Philippines – Mayor Mauricio Domogan ordered the creation of barangay tourism councils in Baguio City’s 128 barangays to empower them in the promotion of the tourism industry, the main source of livelihood of the city.

In his Administrative Order 18, Domogan required the barangays to form their respective tourism councils, which are mandated to adopt programs geared toward tourism promotion within the ambit of the Revised Baguio City Tourism Code.

The said programs must be enacted through barangay resolutions and ordinances that will be subject to approval by the City Council.

The tourism councils are also mandated to provide assistance to tourism-oriented enterprises within their territorial jurisdiction, such as fast-tracking the issuance of barangay clearances.

The council should also provide tourist information and held desks in the barangays to assist tourists and vacationers.

All of their activities will be coordinated with the City Tourism Office under the City Administrator’s Office.

The City Administrator’s Office will provide trainings, seminars and workshops to the council members, provide essential market knowledge to allow barangays to develop pro-tourism strategies and products based on sound market information, and supply governmental capacity to respond to the opportunities provided by tourism development.

Domogan said it is high time to harness the barangays’ potential in tourism promotion to help boost the industry for the benefit of their villages.
