AJMER, India – Seven people died and 18 others were injured on Sunday near Rupangarh, nearly 70km from here when a tourist bus collided head on with a speeding truck on a mega highway around 7am.

The dead included two women, a child and four men. The ill-fated vehicle was going to Bikaner from Surat. The injured were admitted to Jawahar Lal Nehru hospital in Ajmer. Out of eighteen injured, the condition of two was stated to be critical.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident took place after the truck driver lost control over his vehicle near a turn and hit the bus coming from opposite direction. The accident was so severe that the front portion of bus was completely destroued.

According to the police, a probe has been started after registering a case against the truck driver. This is the second major accident on the Mega Highway in less than a week’s time in which more than 20 people have lost their life. On January 27, 11 people were killed when a jeep was hit by a speeding truck on a crossing at Palara village near Kuchaman. Despite many fatal accidents occurring frequently on the highway, no lesson has been learnt by the authorities to control over-speeding of vehicles.

Looking to the foggy condition in the region, there are eleven trains which are running behind time in Ajmer division. The railway has rescheduled Ajmer-Jammu Tawi whose departure time is 14.05 but was started at 15.05 hours. There are trains like Jammu Tawi Ajmer, Delhi Sarai Rohilla Udaipur Express, Sealdah Ajmer Express, Muzzaffarpur Ahmedabad Express, Kajuraho Udaipur Express, Jammu Ahmedabad Express, Kolkota Ajmer Express, Sealdah Udaipur Express and Ranchi Ajmer Express running late by 1 to 4 hours.
