Cave reopens to tourists
Surat Thani (eTN) - The scenic Nam Talu cave, closed since October after eight people drowned in a flash flood, has been reopened to welcome end of year holidaymakers. Khao Sok National Park head Chaitat Bunpupantanti said visitors can be assured of their safety inside the cave.
Park staff have installed alarms and a rainwater meter that will warn visitors of danger from a flash flood.
Water swept through the cave in October killing six foreigners and two Thai guides who were inside.
The tragedy prompted the closure of a number of waterfalls and caves in the national park to visitors. On Sunday the park reopened all of its attractions.
About 200 tourists visit the park each day on average, mostly foreigners, but most still stay clear of Nam Talu cave for fear of another flood, Mr Chaitat said.
