Australian visitor raped in Sri Lanka

AMBALANGODA, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka police in the Southern town of Ambalangoda are searching to apprehend a man suspected of raping an Australian student who is touring Sri Lanka.

An Australian National University student has complained to the Ambalangoda police that she was raped by a tourist guide under a solitary rock in the beach.

The girl has arrived in Sri Lanka as part of a group of 15 Australian students to conduct some studies.

The victim would be subjected to a medical test, according to authorities.

The Ambalangoda Police says the suspect has fled the area and investigations are underway island wide to arrest him and to produce him before the court.
