The man suspected of killing a Dutch tourist in Juárez in 1998 was arrested Friday by Mexican authorities after U.S. officials deported him at the El Paso Stanton Street Bridge, officials announced.
Ramiro Adame-Lopez, 51, who appeared before news reporters in Juárez, denied that he killed Hester van Nierop, 28, at the Hotel Plaza in downtown Juárez.
Adame-Lopez, who recently completed a sentence for drug-trafficking in the U.S., was living and working illegally in the United States, said Leticia Zamarripa, spokeswoman for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Arsene van Nierop, Hester's mother, said the arrest is the climax of 15 years of tireless advocacy to achieve justice for her daughter.
