Charging by the pound may help fliers slim down, Aussie airline says
A travel magazine reported Monday that Australian airline AirAsia X is considering charging passengers by the pound in a bid to fight rising fuel prices and to "help Aussies lose weight."
According to Travel Today, the airline's general manager Darren Wright said AirAsia X is considering weighing passengers to calculate the overall weight of the aircraft.
The airline, however, has since released a statement that said Wright was misquoted.
Azran Osman-Rani, chief executive of AirAsia X said: "We have not planned nor even considered charging passengers by weight."
The airline was launched in May last year, with headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
U.S.-based Southwest Airlines sparked controversy in 2002 when it announced it was instituting a "customer of size" policy that requires large passengers to purchase two seats.

I must agree with charging for an extra seat for gigantic people. Recently I was seated beside a huge woman who oozed over the armrest into my seat space... and she had the cheek to want the armrest lifted so that she could spread into my seat for her comfort. No Way ! Buy an extra seat if you want to spread out. I bought all the space I needed ... stay out of it.
and will they also be introducing some reduced fare "slim seats" for the anorexics out there? I suspect not.
