The Mauritius Minister of Tourism, Michael Sik Yuen, has been expelled as a member of his political party, the PMSD (Parti Mauricien Social Democrate).

The Mauritius Minister of Tourism, Michael Sik Yuen, has been expelled as a member of his political party, the PMSD (Parti Mauricien Social Democrate). At a special meeting of the Political Hierarchy of the PMSD, a motion on the expulsion was tabled and voted upon unanimously for the expulsion of Sik Yuen.

A press release from the PMSD said: “Mr. Sik Yuen had forgotten the philosophy of the PMSD through his attitude and actions.โ€ The PMSD has made clear that they are not requesting his replacement as Minister for Tourism but said that the party will not be entering into any political alliance where Sik Yuen is a candidate.

The brutal dismissal of the Ex-chairman of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) was the last straw for the PMSD. Xavier-Luc Duval, leader of the PMSD who is also the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, chose to travel to La Reunion Island on a private visit instead of being present at Festival Kreol, that was being organized by the Ministry of Tourism. Minister Sik Yuen was also not invited to the PMSD end-of-year party as rumors were already circulating on the possible expulsion of the Minister.

Michael Sik Yuen has confirmed to the press that he will not be resigning from his position as a Minister and that he will continue to hold his parliament seat as an Independent Member. He has even stated that he wishes to throw his support 100% for the Prime Minister, Mr. Navin Ramgoolam.
