The Marine Nature Reserve on Reunion was awarded the IFRECOR Palme (French Initiative for Coral Reef) in the category of “Education and Awareness” for the presentation of the project “Underwater Trail of the Hermitage.”
With a real awareness tool for the protection of coral reefs, the Underwater Trail of the Hermitage is a real asset for ecotourism on Reunion Island. Created in 2003, before the creation of the Marine Nature Reserve, this educational tool is constantly receiving visitors to come discover and observe the wealth of fauna and flora that is contained in the lagoon.
The willingness of IFRECOR to promote the protection and sustainable management of the coral reefs in the eight French communities overseas, which is divided into three oceans, is to be commended. The IFRECOR monitors all actions and measures of these coral reefs.
