LOS ANGELES, California – “This prestigious recognition is another milestone for us,” said Resident Manager Ms. Fatima Catindig, commenting on its recent Green Globe Certification. “Green Globe allows us to define and improve our environmental activities. By nature, the hospitality industry is a large consumer of resources. We will do our best to optimize our green efforts and minimize our eco-footprint, to achieve outstanding results. This award has been a team effort, and I am proud to be part of such a dedicated and supportive group of people.”

Green Globe Certification is pleased welcomed its first member in the Philippines, the Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. This world-class beachfront resort identifies and promotes sustainable strategies, and has demonstrated corporate social responsibility for the past few years.

Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu has implemented sustainability practices at all levels of the business. Water reduction goals are set and the property makes use of water from their own treatment plant, rain water is captured, and sea water is used effectively. LED lighting is installed throughout all areas, including the Resort Club. Waste is being segregated, a reuse and recycle policy is in place.

As part of their CSR initiatives, Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu conducts a quarterly beach clean-up, supported by all team members. These activities save marine life, as each year hundreds of thousands of sea birds become entangled in marine debris. They lose their legs, cannot swim or feed. They either starve to death or drown. Entanglement is not limited to birds, but affects all types of creatures, including whales, sharks, dolphins, seals, and turtles.

In light of the devastation wrought about by super typhoon Yolanda in November, Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu decided to help in the relief and rebuilding efforts by donating 100% of all room revenues generated on the weekend when typhoon Yolanda hit, and pledged 80% of all room revenues generated from sales Nov. 15 – 24, 2013. “With the recent Yolanda super storm, we are taking part in the rebuilding efforts for the effected communities. I would like to encourage all our guests and patrons to also contribute to this cause. We thank everyone, who is helping to send aid to the Visayas,” commented Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu owner Manny Osmena.
