The State of Hawaii and Hawaii tourism is celebrating that Sony Corp. just inked a deal to keep the PGA Tour in the Aloha State for another 4 years. This means the Sony Open will stay in Hawaii at least until 2018.

The PGA tournament has been held at the Waialae Country Club on the island of Oahu for over half a decade, and has become a mainstay for Hawaiiโ€™s tourism. Sony Corp. has been the sponsor for going on 20 years.

“The extension of Sony Corporation’s sponsorship of the Sony Open in Hawaii is exciting for Hawaii’s not-for-profit and tourism sectors,” said FOHC President Corbett Kalama in speaking to Honoluluโ€™s Star Advertiser, “as well as the many community constituencies that receive benefits. Additionally, valuable support from the State of Hawaii and Hawaii Tourism Authority leverages hours of Sony Open live television coverage. This Sony Open showcase of our beautiful island home reaches a massive global audience each January, providing valuable top-of-mind promotional benefit for Hawaii’s tourism industry.”

Come January 9-12 when the 2013 tournament will be held, The Golf Channel will broadcast all four rounds of the tourney during US East Coast prime time. With Hawaii as the paradise backdrop, Hawaii tourism has much to be grateful for.
