LOS ANGELES, California – “We are delighted about our re-certification, and the international recognition of our sustainable ways of thinking and acting,” said August Moderer, Managing Director at mainzplus Citymarketing, commenting about Green Globe re-certifying their sustainability efforts.

Green Globe member, mainzplus Citymarketing GmbH in Mainz, Germany, has demonstrated an innovative approach to responsible practices for years – and with visible success! The philosophy of sustainability is integrated at all levels, making it the core of the company’s corporate strategy. All efforts recently earned Green Globe re-certification.

“As an event organizer we have to act in a responsible manner and raise awareness among our partners, customers, and staff members. If you want to be successful in the event sector these days, you have to follow the green trend and deliver a sustainable product,” August Moderer added.

Environmental goals are specified and operational performance is strictly monitored. The team at Mainz Congress Center supports zero impact events, and meeting planners are encouraged to take advantage of the eco-friendly conference package ‘green plus’. Clients get to use electric vehicles, benefit from round-trip tickets on German national railway Deutsche Bahn, free public transportation in Mainz and neighbor city Wiesbaden, free admission to local museums and city tours. Green electricity and sustainable catering, featuring seasonal and regional products, are included. As part of events and general business activities, mainzplus Citymarketing supports numerous charitable organizations and social projects within the community and worldwide.

The City of Mainz is nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2013, and the state capital is listed in the category “Most Sustainable Major City”, together with Augsburg and Dortmund. This award recognizes municipal authorities, who implement sustainable development within the limits of their resources, and successfully realized outstanding projects in specific sectors. The judging panel is impressed with the development of the city of Mainz as a green meetings and tourism destination.

The award is endorsed by the German Federal Government, the National Council for Sustainable Development, and numerous scientific organizations, such as UNESCO and UNICEF. It was established in 2008 to encourage the acceptance of social and ecological responsibility, and to identify role models in this field. Nominees include companies, cities and individuals, instrumental in promoting the idea of a sustainable society.
