The WTM (World Travel Market) Exhibition in London opened its doors to professionals in the tourism sector from November 4-7, and the Reunion Island Tourist Board (IRT) was present, accompanied by professionals operating on the Island so as to promote the island destination on the British tourism market.

The Connections Reunion agency, Anthurium hotel group, Air Austral airline, and Open2Europe press office accompanied the IRT at the 18 m² stand. In line with the Vanilla Islands marketing strategy, stand AS 342 was located in the Indian Ocean area of the exhibition.

Due to the volume in terms of the number of holiday departures, the stability of its currency, and the air routes offered by its international airport infrastructure, the United Kingdom represents a market with strong potential. During this exhibition, Anne Etheve, sales representative of the IRT, was charged with bolstering the reputation of Reunion Island, notably through canvassing activities and establishing partnerships with tour operators.

Mauritius and the Seychelles are already strong tourist destinations for the British market. In the framework of the Vanilla Islands strategy, Reunion Island could also benefit from the reputation of these two Islands in the Indian Ocean.

The presence of Reunion Island in this international exhibition was fundamental in terms of image and visibility. Sales of holidays departing from the UK towards Reunion Island increased by 45.2% in 2012 (source INSEE/IRT).

Some figures about WTM London:

– over 5,000 international exhibitors
– 184 international destinations and regions
– 47,776 professional visitors
