“The Indian Queen,” a semi-opera by British composer Henry Purcell, will make its world premiere at the Teatro Real in Madrid, Spain. This performance will present a spectacle of dance, music, literature, theatre, and the visual arts.

Purcell was not able to complete “The Indian Queen,” as he passed away while writing the work in 1695. Several centuries later, the Teatro Real is offering a production with a new libretto based on the novel “La nina blanca y los pajaros sin pies,” by Nicaraguan writer, Rosario Aguilar.

Gerard Mortier, artistic director of the Teatro Real, continues to rely on renowned artists for his productions. This time, he has re-enlisted American stage director, Peter Sellars, one of those geniuses who makes the audience aware of other realities.

He has also chosen another regular to Madrid’s opera house in recent seasons, the Greek master, Teodor Currentzis, who demonstrated his talent last year by conducting Verdi’s “Macbeth.”

This semi-opera will be performed from November 5-19, 2013.
