STOWE, Vermont – Mr. Ghulam Ahmed Mir, Minister of Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir, India will be a featured speaker at the IIPT South Asia Leaders Panel being held at World Travel Market, Wednesday, November 6, from 1400 to 1500 in South Gallery 17.

The theme of the session is: Building Bridges of Collaboration for Sustainable Tourism.

Also to be featured will be Mr. Thuji D. Nadik, Acting Director General, Tourism Council of Bhutan Secretariat. The session will be moderated by Geoffrey Lipman, President, International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).

The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) projects that South Asia will have the strongest growth in travel and tourism’s direct contribution to GDP in the coming years with a growth rate of 6.7%. Their ten-year outlook is that South Asia will outperform all other world sub-regions with a 7.2% growth rate driven by increasing wealth in the middle classes.

The IIPT South Asia session will explore opportunities for collaborative strategies that will ensure that this projected growth will maximize tourism’s social and economic benefits to local communities; protect and enhance the environment; and nurture the potential for tourism, culture, and sport in promoting a “Culture of Peace” and friendship throughout the region.

IIPT Founder and President said, “As one of the world’s largest and fastest growing industries, the collective voice of travel and tourism leaders can be a powerful force for peace and justice in the 21st century – for without peace, there is no tourism.”

IIPT is dedicated to fostering and facilitating tourism initiatives that contribute to international understanding and cooperation, an improved quality of environment, the preservation of heritage, poverty reduction, and the resolution of conflict – and through these initiatives, help bring about a more peaceful and sustainable world. IIPT is dedicated to mobilizing travel and tourism, the world’s largest industry, as the world’s first “Global Peace Industry,” an industry that promotes and supports the belief that “Every traveler is potentially an Ambassador for Peace.”
