WASHINGTON, DC – Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, praised President Obama’s comments at the White House Thursday calling for a renewed focus on immigration reform.

“The president’s remarks show that he is determined to move on with the business of governing now that the federal shutdown is over,” Dow said, “and immigration reform is the perfect place to start. The travel community has been strongly supportive of the reform package already passed by the Senate, which, among other things, contains common-sense measures to increase the numbers of international visitors by improving the Visa Waiver Program and the Customs and Border Protection entry process.

“Obviously October was a difficult month to advance any major legislation in Washington, but travel leaders have held out every hope that the U.S. House will turn to the critical immigration issue this year. We stand ready to work with that chamber in whatever way we can.”
