Roderick Micallef established the Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon to be among the leading hotels in Portugal, outpacing competition and firmly entrenching the hotel’s positioning in the upscale leisure, corporate and conference markets, and now he has been promoted.

Luxury brand Corinthia Hotels announced the appointment of Roderick Micallef as Vice President of Operations for its hotels in Malta and mainland Europe. Roderick returns to the company’s head office from Portugal, where he was the General Manager of the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon. In his new role, Roderick will drive strategies to maximize profitability and quality in the hotels’ Craftsmanship of Care guest services offering.

Among several achievements he pioneered a ground-breaking Energy Efficiency Project in collaboration with Galp Energia, a national utility, whereby collaborative investment in modern technology and energy systems have brought about a reduction of 11% of the Lisbon hotel’s energy costs, representing energy savings of up to 70 MHz per year and a significant reduction of CO2 emissions.

Roderick’s qualities received due recognition by industry authorities when, in 2010, he was honored with the Young Leader Award by the acclaimed International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF).
“Roderick will be an invaluable asset to the Corinthia corporate team, bringing with him a wealth of hands-on operational expertise, which our general managers across Europe, will tap into” said Simon Naudi, CEO at Corinthia Hotels.

Corinthia Hotels owns and operates five star hotels in Prague, Budapest, St Petersburg and Lisbon on mainland Europe, besides Malta, London, Tripoli, Tunis and Khartoum.

Roderick has been with Corinthia for thirteen years. He is married to Fiona and has two children.
