Crystral Cruises gets jazzed

HONG KONG – Nearly a dozen internationally renowned artists will jam in and around Crystal Symphony’s stylish lounges, intimate nightclubs and spirited dance floors for Crystal Cruises’ New York

HONG KONG – Nearly a dozen internationally renowned artists will jam in and around Crystal Symphony’s stylish lounges, intimate nightclubs and spirited dance floors for Crystal Cruises’ New York-to-Reykjavík Jazz-themed cruise starting June 1, 2014. What’s more, savvy travelers can save US$2,000 per person for bookings made by October 31, 2013.

The lively line-up, assembled by Jazzdagen Tours, includes acclaimed band leader Pieter Meijers and his quartet, trumpeter Dave Tatrow, Jazz and Ragtime pianist Randy Morris, bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott, saxophonist Antti Sarpila, drummer Danny Coots and pianist-singer Yve Evans. With midday mood music in the Crystal Cove, tea in Palm Court, dancing in the Starlite Lounge and late-night, up-close-and-personal sets in Luxe nightclub and Avenue Saloon, guests can enjoy the greatest hits and standards of the Jazz era from noon to night. Throughout, jazz experts will enlighten guests on the genre, Ambassador Hosts will serve as dance partners, and additional pros will host complimentary classes on everything from iPad Movie Making to golf to bridge to ballroom dancing, and more.

The “Skyscrapers to Ice Castles” voyage kicks off with a shipboard overnight in New York and heads northeast for a rare June visit to key New England and Eastern Canada destinations, including Newport, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St. John’s, Newfoundland, before concluding with an overnight in Reykjavík, Iceland, where guests can marvel at the midnight sun.

“From the sites of North America’s most historic destinations to the sounds of America’s most homegrown music, this will be a very special sailing,” says Bret Bullock, vice president of entertainment. “While all of these musicians are accomplished performers with extensive repertoires, it’s especially exciting to hear the magic that happens when they mix it up and play together in unexpected combinations. With trios, quartets, big bands, vocalists, pianists, our Galaxy Orchestra, and other assorted entertainers, Crystal Symphony will be exceptionally alive with great music.”

A second jazz theme will also enliven Crystal Serenity’s new November 30, 2014 Panama Canal sailing.

Crystal Cruises’ entertainment offerings include a range of venues, performances, and enrichment for all world travelers, from nightclubs to piano bar saloons; acclaimed productions to headline entertainers; and sophisticated speakers to educational classes, including USC’s iPad filmmaking course and the exclusive Magic Castle at Sea.
