On the occasion of the forthcoming World Tourism Day, Friday, September 27, the Chairman of the Seychelles Hospitality and Tourism Association, Mr. John Stravens, has issued a message to all the association members to mark this day.
This yearโs theme designated by the UNWTO is โTourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future.โ
โThis yearโs Tourism Day theme, โTourism and Water: Protecting our common future,โ is fitting for Seychelles as water represents two important facets of our tourism industry. A major component that Seychelles has to offer to its visitors is partly water! We are surrounded by plenty of it and major activities such as sailing, fishing, diving are centered in and around water. This is a positive element to our tourism industry, and we ought to preserve and protect our seas โ our livelihood,โ Mr. Stravens said.
โOn the other hand, there is a scarcity in terms of potable water, which is a pertinent issue that needs to be addressed. We encourage all our members to be conscious of the need to save this precious resource. Proper rain harvesting and water-saving methods should be the prime objective of hotel establishments in our efforts to mitigate the adverse effects of water shortage,โ he continued.
It is to be noted that Minister Alain St.Ange, our Seychelles Minister for Tourism & Culture, will be delivering a message together with the UNWTO Secretary General Dr. Taleb Rifai on Friday. This will no doubt help position Seychelles further on the world tourism map.
