Vienna - Schönbrunn palace was the most visited tourist attraction in Vienna last year, closely followed by Schönbrunn Zoo, according to the Vienna Tourist board. Schönbrunn palace tops the list with 2.59 million visitors, closely followed by Schönbrunn Zoo - which lies within the palace grounds. The two sights also topped the list in 2006. Many other buildings associated with the former Austrian Empire can be found among the top attractions. The most popular museum of 2007 was the Museum of Art History with 620,000 visitors. Often visi- ted church buildings, in particular the first district’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral, are not included in the list as the number of visitors can not be counted because, as an official church building, it is free and accessible to everyone.
