Zambia has been declared the winner of the African nomination of the 2013 UNWTO Vettor Giusti poster competition.

Zambia has been declared the winner of the African nomination of the 2013 UNWTO Vettor Giusti poster competition.

This was officially announced at the closing plenary session of the just ended General Assembly held jointly In Livingstone and Victoria Falls Towns at The Mighty Victoria Falls. Every two years, on the occasion of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) General Assembly, a poster competition called the Vettor Giusti Tourism Poster Competition is held providing an opportunity to showcase the beauty of the competing destinations through creative poster design.

The Vettor Giusti Tourism Poster Competition is open to all the member states of the UNWTO and is channeled exclusively through their national tourism administrations, which in Zambiaโ€™s case is the Zambia Tourism Board.

The Zambia Tourism Board submitted a poster entitled Zambia โ€“ Letโ€™s Explore depicting an aerial view of the majestic Victoria Falls capturing the beautiful background of the Zambezi River before plunging into the Mighty Victoria Falls and the resultant spray that truly depicts this as the only natural wonder in Africa. Inscribed above the image is an 1855 quotation from the Explorer David Livingstone which epitomizes the splendor of the view when he simply stated in one of his letters, โ€œThis is by far the finest sight I have seen in Africa.โ€ The poster was super imposed with miniature pictures of Zambiaโ€™s other tourism product representations including, culture, the friendly people of Zambia, adventure products and wildlife.

The poster will be displayed at the entrance hall of the UNWTO building in Madrid and will be viewed on the UNWTO website until the next edition of the poster competition in 2015.

Tourism and Arts Minister, Sylvia Masebo received the prize on behalf of Zambia.

Commenting on the award, Zambia Tourism Board Managing Director Felix Chaila expressed delight at winning the prestigious prize ahead of other renowned African destinations.

โ€œWinning this award is an honor for Zambia as it confirms that our advertising and showcasing of Zambiaโ€™s tourism is of the highest standard. The winner was selected by a jury consisting of communication specialists and an award winning image for the Country means we are competitive in getting a higher share of voice on a global level as each Country strives to market itself to the World aggressively. It is the intention of ZTB to take full advantage of this endorsement of the UNWTO in our advertising campaigns. For Zambia, winning this award is an appropriate conclusion to what has been described as the best attended General Assembly of the UNWTO.โ€
