ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Heavy rains have caused flooding and submerged the main roads of Islamabad and Rawalpindi including the Islamabad expressway‚ causing traffic jams. Three young people drowned in Nullah Leh near Ratta Imral, Rawalpindi, according to rescue sources.

The water level in Rawalpindi has reached an alarming level at Nullah Leh, where the water level rose to 22.60 feet at Katarian and 19.36 feet at Gawalmandi. Spillways of the Rawal dam have also opened to discharge the additional water.

The spokesman of MTA told that the army’s help has been sought in the Gawalmandi area of Rawalpindi while rainwater has submerged Gulbahar, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road, and other areas.

In the last 24 hours, 54 mm of rainfall was recorded in Peshawar, 49 mm in Risalpur, 47 mm Islamabad, and 30 mm in Sialkot.
