Tourism Deputy Minister Fausto Fernandez provided the latest tourism figures in the Dominican Republic, as he also revealed that a series of measures will be announced in the coming days to attract tourists from nations as far away as China.

The number of tourists to the Dominican Republic climbed in July 4% over 2012 and is expected to continue rising until year-end, with more than US$4.7 billion in revenue.

The official spoke to reporters will be during the launch of Santo Domingo 2013, Capital Destination, slated for October 14 and 15 at Hotel Jaragua.

The activity was hosted by the Tourism Ministry and the Santo Domingo Hotel Association (AHSD), whose president Eduardo Reple said the goal is to promote the Dominican capital as attractive tourist destinations.

He said the points which define Santo Domingo as a versatile destination will be showcased, featuring its colonial buildings, churches, malls, parks, and amusement centers. “Weโ€™re at a strategic time to drive the positioning of our capital city as a tourist destination.”
