Don’t call it a Ferris wheel, that was the message put out by Singapore Tourism Board (STB) when it announced the opening of “The Singapore Flyer,” which is set to become the world’s tallest observation wheel when it opens its doors in March next year.
According to the STB, “the Flyer” consists of a 492 foot high wheel built over a three-story terminal building, giving it a total height of more than 541 feet (as big as a 42 storey building). This will exceed The Star of Nanchang (currently the tallest) by 16 feet and the London Eye (currently the largest) by 49 feet.
It added that “the state-of-the-art, luxury wheel will feature 28 large capsules (each customizable and capable of holding nearly 30 people) that will provide panoramic views of Marina Bay and the Singapore financial district skyline.”
“The Singapore Flyer is poised to be an iconic attraction that will significantly enhance the tourism landscape in Singapore. A welcome addition to the city’s skyline, the Singapore Flyer offer visitors an unforgettable Singapore experience,” said Dayne Lim, director Cluster Development (Sightseeing and Cruise).
Hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. seven days a week. Pedestrian access to the Singapore Flyer is along the Marina Bay waterfront and Raffles Ave.
