Three people have been arrested in Arequipa, southern Peru, on suspicion of murdering 22-year-old Israeli tourist Tamar Shahak, Peruvian police said Tuesday.

Police said the three would allegedly pretend to be cab drivers, raping and murdering their passengers.

The three are also suspected of murdering two local women.

Peruvian media reported that in the car of one of the suspects, police found hair belonging to Tamir and traces of her blood. Local media also said that police discovered Shahak's passport and a Hebrew book buried in the suspect's backyard.

Shahak was in the middle of an extended trip through South America when she was found strangled to death on May 4.
