Grand Boucan is the event of the year on Reunion Island. This multicultural event was held this past Sunday, June 23, in the streets of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains where the colors of the costumes fit right in with the parade floats. A parade was held under the sign of the imaginary, transporting children and adults on a journey into the future.

At the seaside resort of Saint-Gilles-les-Bains, the rhythmical fleets of the biggest carnival on Reunion Island vibrates through the streets, and the excitement entices those participating to dress up and dance. On this day, all islanders and visitors are expected to celebrate in joy and a good mood just like King Dodo.

For several months, preparations for this big event have been taking place, with a dozen tanks taking part in the parade.

King Dodo was taken to the direction of the beach where it was burned, followed by fireworks and an open-air concert where people listened to the tunes with the heads in the clouds and their feet in the sand.
