BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (TVLW) - Barbados' standards in the accommodation sector are set to soar to a whole new level, following the recent unveiling of the island's Hotel Guidebook 2008 featuring AAA (pronounced "Triple A") rated properties, an initiative of the BTA (Barbados Tourism Authority). AAA is an American-based non-profit organization that allocates coveted diamonds to hotels worldwide which merit the rating. The first of its kind to be introduced in Barbados, accommodations are now set to a higher internationally recognized standard for both AAA members and travelers.

The 98-page glossy guidebook is the only independent publication of its kind in the Caribbean with AAA rated accommodations. It showcases 50 AAA diamond properties in Barbados with 13 pending inspection and contains up-to-date information on attractions in the island.

The Minister of Tourism and International Transport, the honorable Noel Lynch speaks to hoteliers at the Sandy Lane Country Club to address the AAA standard of quality rating. "North Americans usually recognize 'brand name' hotels, the AAA seal of approval will ensure that the island's accommodation sector will meet the visitor's particular standard of quality, whether it is at the budget end or high end of the hospitality scale." He also added that the Green Globe certification which integrates environmentally friendly design into commercial buildings would soon be "embedded into the law."

Delivering the welcome remarks, President and CEO of the BTA, Stuart Layne emphasized that Barbados has gone one step further to achieving world class standards such as Zagat and AAA. Layne, who said that in seven years time a quality holiday would be known globally as "Barbados", reminded hoteliers that the Zagat survey has been used "to differentiate the island's product" and that Barbados was the first and only Zagat rated destination in the Caribbean.

The free publication is available at the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA), Harbour Road, St. Michael. For more information contact (246) 427-2623.
