HONOLULU, Hawaii - Habilitat will be hosting its 13th Annual Luau, Auction, and Benefit Concert on June 1, 2013 at King Intermediate School in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii. The festivities will include great food, live local entertainment, and one of the largest Live and Silent auctions on the island. Auction items will include: vacation getaways, sporting goods, artwork, furniture, musical instruments, electronics, and much more. The live auction will be hosted by Surfer Joe Teipel, one of Hawaii’s premiere auctioneers. Many activities will be offered for the keiki (children), including face painting, inflatable bouncers, and balloon animals. he menu will include an eight-course authentic, home-cooked Hawaiian cuisine. One of the favorites, kalua pig, will be prepared in a traditional “imu” (underground oven) fashion.
Headlining the entertainment this year will be Henry Kapono from “Cecilio and Kapono,” one of Hawaii’s favorite artists. Also, Sistah Robi Kahakalau, a loyal supporter of Habilitat, is set to appear and play her most-beloved songs, as well as John Cruz who will be doing it “Island Style” at the luau. To top it off, traditional Tahitian and hula dancing will also grace the stage.
Founded in 1971, Habilitat is recognized as one of the largest and most successful substance abuse treatment programs in the country. One of the things that sets Habilitat apart from other organizations is its unique concept of self-reliance. Habilitat is fully self-supporting and is not funded by state or federal contracts. Academic and vocational training is provided to help the residents develop new skills and a strong work ethic. Throughout their stay, residents gain positive values and self-esteem that prepare them for life after the program.
This luau is a large-scale fundraising project, with an expected 2,000 people in attendance. This is expected to be their largest luau to date. Habilitat is offering corporate sponsorship and advertising opportunities for local businesses. Discounted group rates and table reservations are also available.
