St. George boutique hotel a proactive community leader
Green Globe certifies Grenada’s True Blue Bay Resort
LOS ANGELES, California - Green Globe announced certification of the True Blue Bay Resort in St. George’s, Grenada, in the West Indies. For the past few years this Caribbean boutique hotel has taken a proactive role in preserving and protecting its untouched natural surroundings. As a corporate leader in the community, the True Blue Bay Resort fosters social and environmental initiatives towards the community, and – by extension – national sustainable development.
“We are very proud to receive this prestigious recognition from Green Globe Certification,” said Russ Fielden, Owner of the True Blue Bay Resort, “Our management and staff have been working hard to come up with innovative ideas to help keeping the environment clean and play a beneficial role in Grenadian society. A beach clean-up was just recently accomplished by our staff and friends, who collected over 17 large bags of garbage on a nearby beach. We will continue to improve our environmental efforts, promoting awareness and sustainable practices on all possible levels.”
A long-term sustainability management system is in effect at the True Blue Bay Resort, and a dedicated Green Team monitors the progress of green measures, shaping and realizing environmental goals set by the property. Over the past year the resort has experimented with solar lights, and “True Green Rooms,” which will virtually use no electricity and be powered by solar energy, are currently being planned. Packaging is reduced to a minimum, and a reuse and recycle program is implemented. The purchasing policy favors local goods and services that have no negative environmental or social impact. Guests are invited to learn about local heritage and culture, and artisans display and sell their products twice per week at the property.
The True Blue Bay Resort does all within their power to conserve the natural ecosystems and habitats with special concerns for the near-shore environment and coral reefs, and species associated with the facility. Magdalena Fielden (Owner) is the founder of the “Grenada Friends of Whales and Nature” Facebook page. The page has 7,000 followers and is updated every day on how to help the marine environment.
Green Globe Certification’s CEO, Guido Bauer, commented: “We are extremely pleased to award certification to the True Blue Bay Resort in Grenada. This property impresses with their contribution to the community. Owner Russ Fielden is passionate about education, energy saving, and simply getting things ‘right.’ He teaches at Vendome Primary School, coaching many of the kids and bringing them to the resort when possible for field trips and meals. Many local events are sponsored throughout the year: Grenada Triathlon, Grenada Sailing Festival, Drum Festival, school events, and community happenings. Guests are always encouraged to join local activities, promoting the spirit and good cause.”
